THE DAILY PROPHET Vol. 1, Issue. 1 June 9, 2015 HOGWARTS RE-OPENS
After many hours of hard work, dedication, and a lot of hope, Minerva McGonagall and her crew of volunteers have successfully managed to restore Hogwarts to its former glory. What was once a glorified pile of rubble is once again the castle we remember and love.
Our sources have stated that McGonagall intends to invite the previous seventh years to return to complete their education. "So much has happened in these past years and the chance of learning has been robbed from our graduating class," said McGonagall. "I just want to let them know that they don't have to fight the rest of the world quite yet. There will be a place for them at Hogwarts should they choose to return."
When asked if Death Eater's would be allowed to return the headmistress grew to be furious. "All of my students will be allowed to return, so help me Merlin! They are children, not Death Eaters. Hogwarts was built in the name of safety and it has been rebuilt in the name of acceptance!"
Headmistress McGonagall remained firm even regarding Death Eaters who are currently of age. "Even if they are of age now, they weren't two years ago. They weren't twelve years ago. After the war is over it's easy to look at opposing sides in black and white, good and bad. We forget that for a lot of us it was a privilege to have the freedom to do good. It's not so black and white when your life and the life of everyone you love is on the line. Tom Riddle was a threat to his followers just as much as those who opposed him. So please tell me how you personally, at the age of 16, would stand against that man. Tell me how you would stand against him when he had your parents, siblings, aunts, and uncles by the throat. So no, I do not make a habit of punishing students for the sins of their guardians."
McGonagall then discussed the new additions to the school; mainly new courses that will be offered to students. Classes such as expanding on Muggle Studies, Home Economics, Arithmetic, and Health Education.“For centuries now we have been failing our students. We prioritized the pursuit of magic and left everything else to the parents. Not all students have parents, and not all parents are capable. I am not going to see this cycle continue.”
“We’re hoping to introduce the students to new ideas and give them the tools necessary to lead successful lives. With the recent threats that almost destroyed our world it’s important to know how to live in another one if need be.” Grave words from the headmistress. It’s yet to be known how the public is reacting to such changes. There have been whisperings saying that McGonagall is out to end the wizarding life, but there are those who are giving the headmistress their full support. Only time will tell as to how this plays out.
And speaking of things playing out... Will Harry Potter be returning to Hogwarts? Owls are being received daily sporting this particular question, sometimes even hourly. McGonagall has refused to confirm and said that all future attendees are confidential to respect their safety and privacy. "You nosy little [censored].” Readers, it looks like you’ll just have to wait.
Will Minerva McGonagall be able to have a smooth year at Hogwarts? Can she live up to the legacy that Headmasters Albus Dumbledore and Severus Snape left behind? Should she?
