"My SHYNESS is my MASK. If you saw my REAL FACE you just might SHATTER. The GIRL UNDERNEATH it, it is NOT the girl you SEE on the outside. On the OUTSIDE, I am BROKEN, but on the INSIDE, I. Am. STRONG." TAG: Draco Malfoy NOTES: Excited to see how this plays out. WORDS: 394 Emma flipped the page over in her Divination book, her worst class. She was good in every other class, except this one. She was reading up on the planetary alignments, which Trelawney kept giving her a T in. She groaned, shutting her book with a loud 'thump,' which caused the librarian to 'Shh!' Emma. "Sorry!" She whispered. The librarian nodded stiffly, and Emma piled her books into a neat stack on the table, and went to check out the Divination book. Once that was done, she got the rest of her books and left the library. She hummed while walking.
Her plan was to go back to the Gryffindor Common Room, and see if any of the seventh or eighth years could help her. No doubt she'd be a stuttering mess. Sure, in the classroom, Emma was confident, but outside of class, even if it was school-related, Emma had the hardest time asking for help. As Emma walked, her humming slightly increased. She was humming the Hogwarts school anthem, and looked around, seeing if any one was there, before beginning to sing. "Hogwarts, Hogwarts, Hoggy Hogwarts, give us something please! Whether we be old and bald or-" Emma started singing. She stopped abruptly, jumping.
She had been startled by a shaking and scuffling and bouncing around in a broom cupboard. She raised a questioning brow and walked closer to it. "H-He-Hello? Is... Is anyone in there?" She stuttered. Emma reached out the turn the door handle, but the second she touched it, the door flew open. Her stepfather, Rupert, stepped out, and angry look on his face. "Well, lookie here! Scared, little, Emmalia. Look at you! You call yourself a Malfoy?! You're in Gryffindor for crying out loud!" He shouted at her. She knew it was a boggart, and she disliked them very greatly.
She didn't do well in DADA when they were on boggarts. She reached for her wand, almost frozen in fear, and raised it up to him. "Ri-Ri-" She stuttered. "Rid-Riddiku-" She stuttered again. But then Emma dropped her wand, and cowered in fear, waiting for the blow, hoping another student would come by and help her shaking, fearful, self with the boggart. Her stepfather, or the boggart, more likely, began yelling insults at her. "Fat, ugly, shy, meek!" The Rupert-boggart yelled. The cowering Emma backed away, just praying for help.

I'm Sorry for Everything Oh, Everything I've done It was the singing which caught Draco's attention. The school's rather stupid theme was hard to miss, but it wasn't the words that held his attention. Rather it was voice forming the words. Female, familiar, but no one he'd ever heard before. She had that distinct Malfoy tilt, or rather it was distinct to Draco. He knew that there were other Malfoys at Hogwarts, but he'd been forced against ever contacting them. As Draco's feet headed toward the noise he was very aware that he probably shouldn't. What right did he have? It wasn't as though he ever harmed the family, but he sure as hell never helped them out either. Oh, Merlin, curiosity killed the goddamn cat.
Draco's ears alerted him the the variance in the situation. First there was turbulent rattling, but then there was a voice filled with malicious intent. The Slytherin was more than familiar with the latter. His footsteps picked up until he was moving along at a brisk jog. On one hand he want to arrive quickly, but on the other hand he didn't want to startle her. The smaller the gap became then more clearly he could hear her attempts at a "Riddikulus!". He's already determined a boggart to be the most likely assailant, but her trembling tones confirmed the fact.
After what felt like an eternity Draco rounded the corner and happened across the scene. Their names instantly flew through his mind. The girl was Emmalia Malfoy and the mad was her step father, Rupert. He may had been instructed to keep away, but that didn't mean he wasn't told everything known about them. His mouth was held in a grim line, he hadn't known about this. With each insult he winced in pain for the Gryffindor. He was irresolute about stepping in on the contention, but her cowering was enough to fuel his consciousness. Nonetheless he was perturbed that his monstrosity of a life would be too much.
As Emmalia backed away Draco took her place. The boggart turned to him and cocked it's head in a thoughtful interest. Crack! A sad, broken body lay sprawled across the floor. A cackling Bellatrix towered over what was left of the bloody scrap of the man. The witch carefully stepped over the body and crooned at Draco, "Oh, come on, Draco! Do it, cast the curse!" Another laugh erupted from her mouth, but it was nothing close to being kind. It was cold and calculating. A moment later and her faced changed to match. "Tut, tut, Dragon, you better act fast, time's a-running out." Her wand was currently being wrapped around with a lock of hair, but it could be on him in a second. His face was blank as he raised his own wand. Bellatrix's face gleamed as prepared to cast the curse. "Riddikulus!" Her face twisted into a snarl as the both she in the body were transformed into Snape wearing a bikini. A flick of the wand trapped t back into the cupboard from which it sprung. Draco closed his eyes to try and erase the memory of the muggle bleeding out on the floor below him, broken to the point of insanity. They flew open as he turned around on the heel of his foot. The Malfoy girl.
"Erm, are you okay?"

"My SHYNESS is my MASK. If you saw my REAL FACE you just might SHATTER. The GIRL UNDERNEATH it, it is NOT the girl you SEE on the outside. On the OUTSIDE, I am BROKEN, but on the INSIDE, I. Am. STRONG." With each passing moment, each insult got worse and worse. "Incompetent, stupid, such a horrible excuse for a daughter. You disgrace the name 'Malfoy,' and if you were a Lionheart, a scrawny thing like you would've been-" The boggart yelled at her. But then, abruptly, it stopped. She heard the crack of change, and Emma opened her eyes, which had been clenched shut, and revealed her tear-stained face. Rupert was gone, but replaced by her aunt, Bellatrix Lestrange. She always gave Emma the shivers. Emma heard the name 'Draco,' and looked around. She soon found him as he shouted, 'Ridikkulus!'
The boggart disappeared and Draco had turned towards Emma. "Erm, are you okay?" He asked. Emma slowly nodded, trying to wipe the tears from her cheeks."Ye-Yes. I-I-I am." She stuttered, looking down. She was surprised Draco was talking to her in the first place. She knew that everyone from the Malfoy family, at least the ones who casted her family off, tormented them, had forced everyone to neglect them. She was thankful for his being there, though. "Th-Th-Thank y-you."Emma stuttered. She hated her stutter; it made Rupert call her weak, meek, scrawny. She needed to work on it.
Emma tried to avoid eye contact with Draco as she got on her knees and collected the things she had dropped. Her wand wasn't far from her, so she grabbed it, and put it in her pocket. As she stood up, Emma walked over to Draco, just a little closer. Emma was still avoiding eye contact with him, he could probably notice that. "U-Um, Dr-Dra-Draco? Could... Could y-you not mention t-to Ale-Alexandra tha-that you know about Ru-Rupert? If she... um... found out, sh-she'd tell him, and it.... it wouldn't be pre-pretty." Emma stuttered, pushing a piece of loose hair behind her ear.

I'm Sorry for Everything Oh, Everything I've done Ignoring the onslaught of tears would be the polite thing to do, so Draco didn't mention them. A brow was carefully arched as the girl dictated she was fine, it was a involuntary reaction. The stammering speech patterns weren't really helping her make the case. Draco knew the effects of having any associations with abusive family members, one would not simply be "okay" afterward. Draco paused for a moment as he reconsidered the situation. Rupert had been going on about not living up to the Malfoy name, and then he, Draco Lucius Malfoy, had come along. All in all he most a hindrance to an ease of speech.
"You're welcome," the tone used was tranquil, halcyon as to not consternate Emmalia further. Draco's eyes remained trained on her features so he took in the fact that her's were faint to meet his own, unsurprising. It would have been scurrilous to handle another wizard's or witch's wand without permission, otherwise Draco would have picked up the length of wood for her. A passive mask established itself over Draco's face as she drew vicinal and remained so even as she instituted her halting request.
"Emmalia, your request is probably useless. We're all very aware that they exist as they are of us. It would be foolish think that we aren't aware." He paused to take a breath and place a hand on the shoulder in the closest proximity to Draco. "That being said, I will not say a word." She didn't really know much of what the Malfoys were like, did she? A pang of guilt shot down his spine at the realization that he was partially to blame for that. There was only so much of his childhood that he could control, but still. With the girl stand near, desperately crying, he saw a change to potentially change this.

"My SHYNESS is my MASK. If you saw my REAL FACE you just might SHATTER. The GIRL UNDERNEATH it, it is NOT the girl you SEE on the outside. On the OUTSIDE, I am BROKEN, but on the INSIDE, I. Am. STRONG."
Emma watched as Draco arched one of his blonde brows at the mention of Emmalia being okay. In truth, she was just a bit shaken. Then Draco said 'you're welcome.' She was still shocked that Draco was talking to her in the first place, after all, Emma's father, Henrik, had been cast off, disowned, really. And she knew that all offspring of the higher-status Malfoys were forbidden to talk to Emma, her mum, and her siblings. So why was Draco paying her, Emmalia Malfoy of the "corrupted" Malfoys, any mind whatsoever? It was, undoubtedly, a question, ringing throughout Emma's mind.
Then he said her request was useless. Panic shot through her. If it was useless, he would probably tell Alexandra, or even worse, Jacob. Emma practically shuddered at the thought. Then his next words. They were aware, they are of the two of us, she was being foolish thinking that they didn't know. She assumed that 'they,' and 'them,' were the Malfoy family, at least Emma's Uncle Lucius and Aunt Narcissa's branch of Emma's pureblood bloodline. She did, in fact, know how Malfoys were very good at getting information on their enemies, or people they disregarded, disliked.
She knew that. "Um.. I was, I-I was talking about the students? At Hogwarts? If my dad found out, if Rupert, I m-mean found out, he'd get infur-infuriated with me." Emma stammered. "And, it's E-Emma." She corrected her cousin. "I-I go by E-Emma." She repeated. Emma then felt a hand on her shoulder and a gasp hitched in her throat. She had heard that Draco had been cruel to people he disliked while at Hogwarts. Was he going to do something to her? Strike her? Hex her? She didn't know. She gripped her wand tightly, preparing to counterattack, if needed.
But then Draco said that he wouldn't say anything, and she let the breath, the one she didn't know she had been holding, out, in a tone of relief. "Thank Merlin." She muttered to herself, although Draco could probably hear her saying it. "Why... why did you help me?" Emma questioned, trying her best not to stutter. Was he being genuine, or was he wanting something in return? Was he going to blackmail her? Emma really just didn't know what Draco was going to do, then again, she didn't really know Draco, whether or not he was technically her cousin.
